American Typewriter Typeface

In the making of my Typography 101 project, I came to fall in love with the American Typewriter typeface. To me, this typeface says, “Anything Typography.” Since it was the first way that people can type something. I especially like it bold. A very good font for a headline.

I Love Typography

Instead of giving us a book to read, my Typography teacher gave us a blog to read. It’s the “I Love Typography.” It is very interesting and thought I should allow you to read it too. It really breaks down this odd subject in a fun way. Go ahead and check it out!

Typography 101

My second project in Graphic Design 2 was Typography 101. The project was essentially have us learn a little about Typography and how to layout text. I had a hard time choosing a layout that I liked, since I wanted to do well on this project. Here is what I turned in.

Homage Poster 2/2

Here is the final product of my homage poster to Herbert Bayer. Ill let you figure out which of his works that I used from my previous post. I used the same colors from his paintings, but not all of them to simplify the poster. Herbert created a typeface in his time, so for my headline, I used his font. The computer didn’t have his the typeface so I had to make it the letters. The text I just copied from the Internet. The project was dune in Illustrator. I think it turned out well. I like it!

Homage Poster 1/2

My first assignment in my Graphic Design 2 class was to create a homage poster (any size) for a famous Graphic Designer. I looked at the list and choose Herbert Bayer. I mostly found paintings that he did and liked them, they where filled with colors of the rainbows. Which I have a liking for those colors and when there put together. Here are some of his works that I used for inspiration.

Introducing Second Semester

Now I am in my second semester at College of DuPage. I am taking Graphic Design 2, Typography, as well as a speech class. Here I will be talking about my Graphic Design 2 and my Typography class.

The End of Graphic Design 1

Now that is the end of my first semester in college. I will have to admit, it was a frustrating class, but I walk out with one project to finish, another to redo, and one for my portfolio.

Cinderella Poster

My final project in this class was to make a poster and design it after a style in Graphic Design History. I decided to make a poster for a Cinderella play. At the time, I had just finished a paper on Cinderella and had found the subject interesting. The era witch it was based off of was the Arts and Crafts Movement. My teacher had me design the poster with Cinderella just standing there so I did. My final product was not what I wanted at all. I had run out of time. I am currently sketching out and redoing the project for my satisfaction.

Cat on Eiffel Tower

This ended up being my best project, but it took a very long time to complete. My next project in Graphic Design 1 was to take an animal of choice and put it in a setting and show depth. I got stuck with the Eiffel Tower. I wont tell you how because it is a long explanation. Anyways, the project took so long because I had to draw the Eiffel Tower, and it intricate design. However, it turned out great. I love it. I look forwarded to putting it in contest in the future.

Joy

This project in Graphic Design 1, we where dealing with color for the first time. We had to pick an emotion and show it with the use of color. I am a happy person, so I chose joy. I decided to use the colors red-orange, yellow-orange, yellow, and yellow-green as my color theme. I made it long vertically to make it existing. I hope you feel joy when you look at my design.

Typography Portrait

My next assignment was to take a picture of myself and recreate it in Illustrator using only type. It was a typography assignment in Graphic Design 1. Sadly, a week into this project I found myself in the hospital for a week. I am fine now, but when I got out I was behind in a lot of work for my Graphic Design classes for the rest of the semester, and sadly, this project never got finished. But I do plane of finishing it in my free time. And I will put it up here! It is looking good thus far.

Mr. Skunk

My next project in Graphic Design 1 was to create a sign of a specific animal. The idea was to simplify the animal and make it look good as well. My animals were a Skunk and a Tiger. I am only going to show my skunk because I like how it turned out and my tiger ended up being offal. I was extremely hard to please the teacher with this project.

Skew It Down

One of my first projects in Graphic Design 1 was to show how to get a square peg into a round whole. We had to think of many ideas to find one that is creative; mine was to skew it down. In Adobe, your can make objects bigger or smaller, this is called skewing. I hope I was able Illustrate this and made it look well. The project was in grayscale and designed in Illustrator.

What I am going to be showing you nest is my projects in my Graphic Design 1 class from my first semester at College of DuPage. I hope you like them. Comments Please!

((I did not make this logo.))

Graduated, TCD

To conclude, that was the last to show you all on which I designed at Technology Center of DuPage. It was my start in Graphic Design and now I walk out of the school and toss my graduation hat in the air (this didn’t happen because we never had a graduation ceremony at TCD) I say to myself, I did it, and now I have chosen my major.

The A Team

One of my successes at TCD was making into “The A Team.” And no, I am not talking about the movie. The A Team award was given to students who received an A in the class, which I surprisingly got , because I’m more of a B student. However, that just shows that I am very good in this area.

KidStuff Toy Company Logo

At TCD, we received a list of ‘made up’ companies and we had to create a logo for them. I chose KidStuff Toy Company. I loved this project, I had lots of fun with it. Also, I loved the idea I went with it. There are a lot of logos with the circle with righting within it and a picture inside it. I went with that idea but didn’t keep myself within the circle, by putting a Teddy bear outside it. It turned out really great.

Mizura Japanese and Chinese Restaurant Menu Prt 3

Here is the inside. I stole the food from my local Chinese food restaurant. I love their food.

Mizura Japanese and Chinese Restaurant Menu Prt 2

Here is the outside of the final menu design which I turned in.  I don’t  feel that this was my best work , there is a lot of changes I would make to it, but the project was rushed.

Mizura Japanese and Chinese Restaurant Menu Prt 1

Are final project at TCD was to design a menu for a restaurant. I created a restaurant called Mizura, a Japanese and Chinese restaurant, since I love their food and thought they should be put together.

With this project, I started with one ides but than changed my mind and went in a different direction. Here is the image of a Geisha I was making for it before changing my mind.

Gaiaonline Ad

At TCD, we had to bring in an ad and recreate it. I brought in an ad for my favorite website, Gaiaonline. I don’t have a copy of the original however, I went a completely different direction then the original. The idea I was showing with this is that your avatar was yourself. As you can see in the ad the pictures of people and the avatars look similar. It took a long time to complete it. I look back and now can see that there is a little too much going on in it, but it did turn out well.

Angel Food Cereal

Here is the Cereal Box I created at TCD. I called it Angel Food Cereal, and put a cute angle on it eating the cereal. I looked at real cereal box and tried to make it look as legitimate as possible. Creating all the little images and ingredients boxes. I had lots of fun with this project. A lot of students created silly cereal boxes and it was quite funny.

CD Cover, Prayer of the Heart prt2

Here is the back of the CD. I mostly made up the songs, and made up some of the artist.

CD Cover, Prayer of the Heart prt1

At TCD, I had to create a CD cover, front and back. I decided to go the creative route and designed a soundtrack for a movie that I made up. I based the whole project of a picture a girl that I drew. All the Images where created in Illustrator, and then brought to gather in InDesign. I called the movie, Prayer of the Heart.
I entered this project in the Visual Communications Contest, and it received 2nd place for it. I also entered it into a bigger competition, and received 5th place. Which is a big deal.

Here is the front of the CD.

Yellow Brick Road

My last project in Photoshop at TCD, I had to take a picture of myself and insert it into a photograph. My teacher supplied the photographs for us and took the pictures of us to insert.  I choose one of the photographs of Wizard of Oz. I tried my best to make myself look like I was actually standing with Dorthy and the gang, but I feel that I wasn’t quite successful.  I know I need to learn more about Photoshop.

Butterfly Project 2

Here are the butterflies colored. I originally colored it orange, than my teacher told me that the insect was actually blue, so I went back and colored it blue for another project. I worked hard on it, trying to make it look realistic. I think they both turned out real well. Good for my first try, I still have a lot to learn in Photoshop.

Butterfly Project 1

Another picture that I had to scan and correct into photoshop was this butterfly picture, with the addition of coloring in. Here is the original picture before I corrected it. I am not going to upload the corrected version, just the colored versions, witch is next.

Corrected Images

Here is one of my first assignments in Photoshop at TCD. I had to scan two negatives and one slid, and then corrected them in Photoshop. I corrected the color with color balance, and corrected the lighting with various methods.

My Logo

At TCD I had to make a logo for myself. I chose a pencil drawing on a piece of paper. I plain on redoing it and making it better.

Where I Came From

WHERE I CAME FROM
My first start in Graphic Design is at Technology Center of DuPage, TCD. It’s a Technology school for high school students. I would go to school and take a bus to TCD for half the day, and then go back to school my regular classes. At TCD I studied Graphic Design and fell in love with it. And now I am studying it in college. I am telling you this because I’m going to be adding my best projects from TCD in here as well.

Its a Start

Hello Everybody! My Name is Lisa. Here is where I’ll be putting up all my graphic design, from school and stuff I do on my own, as well as good graphic design that I found. I hope you will enjoy looking at them. And if you like what you see, don’t be afraid to add a comment asking me to make you something.
